7: Spring Statement 2025: No U-turn for Stamp Duty
In this year's Spring Statement, Rachel Reeves outlined her plans for government spending and where the economy stood following "painful" tax hikes and cuts made during last October's Budget.
As expected, no mention was made of extending the Stamp Duty deadline, despite many across the industry urging the Chancellor to implement an SDLT extension ahead of the Statement. This meant that thousands of home movers and first-time buyers in England and Northern Ireland found themselves facing an extra £2,500 in stamp duty costs.
