"It’s important to remember that no two deals are the same, particularly those in the HMO sector"

Student accommodation provider, Student Tribe has announced that it has sealed a £10.5m residential investment loan to refinance a portfolio of 50 student HMOs in Birmingham, Leeds, Lincoln, and Manchester.
The premium HMOs are all located in popular student areas across the country, including Fallowfield, Hyde Park, and Selly Oak, and are currently in the process of being let out ahead of the 2025/26 student year.
Calum McInnes, Founder of Student Tribe, said: “Over the five years of working with STB, we have built a strong relationship with the team, which continues to deliver excellent results and has done so here despite a couple of last-minute challenges.
“The quality of our housing stock is paramount, and I am pleased to say that demand is through the roof ahead of the next student year. It’s fair to say that working with STB has enabled us to focus on the main task at hand, and I look forward to working with them again in the future.”
The deal was headed up by Daniel Thornton, Relationship Director at STB Real Estate Finance, alongside James Reeves, who supported Daniel throughout the deal.
Daniel said: “It was a pleasure to work with Calum and Student Tribe once again. Over the past five years, we have been able to build a strong working relationship that is mutually beneficial.
“It’s important to remember that no two deals are the same, particularly those in the HMO sector. Sharing a strategy with the client, allowed us to adapt to their needs and offer a bespoke approach to the facility. As an experienced lender in providing student accommodation investment finance, we are on hand to tackle the challenges faced by developers and investors to ensure the student HMO sector continues to prosper for the foreseeable future.”
James said: “This facility was a great opportunity to work with Daniel, who put great trust in me to manage the final stages of the deal and bring the facility to completion on his behalf. Thanks to our close contact with Calum, we were able to resolve all final matters and reach a satisfactory conclusion.”
