The modifications will now allow Promap customers to access and order mapping data up to GB size (over 200 kilometres squared mapping data), as well as access to new data sets, such as the Integrated Transport Network layer and VectorMap Local, through a bespoke online ordering process.

The product extension and new data sets will offer benefits to a wide range of map users including property and planning professionals, as well as those working in sectors such as utilities and transport.

The ITN layer of OS MasterMap provides a detailed overview of Great Britain’s transport infrastructure, whilst the VectorMap Local is a product that helps customers visualise information on OS maps, by allowing users to customise a map and add their own content and display for backdrop mapping for a specific project.

Smiths Gore, one of the UK’s leading rural chartered surveyors and property consultants, recently decided to turn to Promap for its larger area mapping requirements. Stuart Armitage, GIS Technician at the company said:

“We have been using Promap for a number of years to access smaller scale mapping data, but have most recently taken the decision to use Promap to access and download much larger areas of mapping. The recent OS licensing changes have meant that it is more cost effective to use Promap for all our mapping requirements.

"We have always been very pleased with the level of service provided by Promap as they have a good understanding of our needs and are very flexible. The Promap interface is very easy to use, which makes project planning even quicker and more efficient.”

David Dixon, Managing Director at Landmark Promap, comments:

“As a company we have welcomed the recent OS licensing changes, as it has enabled us to innovate and expand our user specific GiS and CAD product offerings. The changes have allowed us to execute plans to engage and offer both new and existing customers an enhanced service at a competitive market price.”

A separate system offering more functionality for larger sites and multi browser capabilities is currently in development, PromapSolutions will be launched early next year.

Promap is the UK’s number one desktop mapping tool for property professionals, providing a wide range of mapping, in a variety of layers, which are supplied in many different levels of accuracy and scales.

With over 27,000 users made up of surveyors, architects, developers, house builders, utilities, engineers, environmental consultants and property professionals, Promap allows users quick and easy access to OS mapping data and geospatial services.
