The number of new build developments across the UK has risen by 15% in 2025, according to new data from new homes property website newhomesforsale.co.uk.
The figures track the number of new build sites developed and marketed via the platform, showing 728 recorded between January and August 2025 compared with 632 during the same period in 2024.
Wales and the South Coast of England saw the strongest increases, with both regions recording a 22% uplift in new homes. In contrast, the East of England posted just a 7% rise, while the South East and East Midlands each reported a 10% increase.
The research follows Labour’s call earlier this year for developers to ‘get building’ in line with its policy to deliver 1.5 million additional homes by 2029.
“This rise in new build developments is an encouraging sign that the UK is moving in the right direction to tackle its long-standing housing crisis," said Vernon Pethard, founder and managing director of newhomesforsale. "While a 15% increase in new build developments UK wide may not sound extensive, it actually reflects real momentum over the last 12 months amidst ongoing economic certainty."
"More importantly, it means more choice and opportunity for buyers, be it first-time buyers or growing families. Ultimately, it's a step forward in ensuring housing supply begins to meet the nation's growing demand.”
