Searches for homes in Bibury, Cotswolds, nearly quadrupled last week after the village was named the ‘most beautiful village in the world’.

New data from Rightmove has revealed that searches for Bibury properties rose 273% compared with the previous week following the accolade.

Homes in Bibury’s GL7 postcode now have an average asking price of £510,899, almost £150,000 above the national average of £370,247.

Bibury and the surrounding Cotswolds remain popular with buyers. Rightmove’s latest data identifies the five most in-demand Cotswold hotspots as Cirencester, Moreton-in-Marsh, Tetbury, South Cerney, and Stow-on-the-Wold.

A similar surge in interest was recorded last year in Burford, when searches for homes rose 63% after Jeremy Clarkson opened ‘The Farmer’s Dog’ pub nearby.

Steve Pimblett, chief data officer at Rightmove, said, “Our real-time data has captured the latest spike in interest for Bibury & the Cotswolds as its beautiful landscape is recognised on the global stage."

“From serious buyers to those who are just curiously imagining what living in the most beautiful village in the world must be like, we’ve seen visitors flock to check out what’s for sale in the area.”

Mary-Lou Press, President of NAEA Propertymark (National Association of Estate Agents), comments,  “Picturesque properties are becoming increasingly desirable and carry a higher price tag due to rising demand in the UK.

“This trend is driven by a shift in lifestyle priorities, such as remote work and the desire for outdoor space, along with increased investment in rural and coastal regions, the intrinsic value of scenic views, and the limited availability of properties in sought-after areas like National Parks.

“The Cotswolds, in particular, is a favoured location to live due to its stunning rural scenery and charming honey-coloured stone villages. This region offers a combination of countryside serenity and practical living, featuring opportunities for outdoor pursuits, a rich history and culture, and good local amenities."
