New research from Aldermore has revealed that 66% of private renters in the UK enjoy a positive relationship with their landlord, challenging common perceptions of landlord-tenant dynamics. The survey of 2,000 tenants and 500 landlords shows that 77% of renters report good communication with their landlord, while just 13% describe the relationship as negative.

The research highlights a trend toward more engaged and supportive landlords:

35% of renters say their landlord has proactively offered help beyond routine maintenance.

18% noted thoughtful, personal touches.

35% were allowed to make cosmetic changes.

34% were permitted to keep pets.

Additionally, 63% of tenants say their landlord is easy to contact, and 89% of landlords prioritise regular upkeep and repairs.

Jon Cooper, Director of Mortgages at Aldermore, said: “Being a good landlord goes beyond rent collection—it's about building trust through communication and maintaining a safe, respectful home environment. These findings show many landlords are actively working to support their tenants and foster better living experiences.”
