Quick Move Now’s research, based on 20,000 seller enquiries per year, reveals that divorce as a reason for selling one’s home increased consistently as the economy nosedived. Divorce as a reason for sale dropped to just 9% as the recovery kicked in.

Donna Houguez, Market Analyst at Quick Move Now, confirms that it’s a sad reality that divorce and recession are closely linked.

"Financial worries can place a serious strain on a marriage and often a couple’s home has to be sold quickly when the marriage ends. These figures show that trend, with more than twice as many home sellers citing break-up as a reason to move house. And sadly these figures are still 50% above the pre-crash levels.

It’s also a reminder that the housing market isn’t just an economic indicator, but a social one too. In these very difficult personal situations, when selling the family home quickly is the only option left, vendors need to know where they stand. Just because sellers are in a difficult position, it doesn’t mean they should have to compromise on service and fairness. We guarantee a fast, radically transparent, simple process with independent valuations and a right for the vendor to pull out at any time without incurring a charge.”
