The research has revealed that DIY and home improvements are high on our Christmas wish list this year with almost two thirds of us (62%) planning to make changes to our home in the Christmas run up.
Regional Breakdown of those who would buy a home in December if it would save them money:
North West 84%
East 75%
Midlands 70%
UK average 62%
Yorkshire 61%
South West 58%
Scotland 55%
South East 54%
London 50%

As you would expect it is women who are leading the Christmas DIY SOS charge with 79% of females planning to ring the festive changes in the home. This compares to just 45% of men.
Redecorating the house is the number one priority for 38% of us this year while it seems that thoughts of cooking the Christmas dinner have led to 35% of homeowners planning either a new kitchen or a new oven.
When it comes to what tops our Christmas wish list, 16% of us are hoping the home improvement Santa will deliver a new kitchen while 10% are hoping for a conservatory.
Some 7% of us would like to hang our Christmas stockings in a walk in wardrobe while a further 7% are dreaming of more ambitious home improvements such as a swimming pool, cinema room, man cave and even a wine cellar.
For those that want to move rather than improve, the focus is on securing a bargain. While traditionally a quieter month for buying a home, almost two thirds of us (65%) would consider buying a property in December if it would save money. Those in the East were the most motivated by the opportunity to snap up a bargain with 74% happy to consider a December move compared to just 56% in London.
Steve Fletcher, Head of Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank Retail Network, said: “Christmas is traditionally a time to share with family and friends however it can highlight concerns over lack of space for guests to stay or an oven that isn’t big enough for the turkey.
Our research has found that as a result many people look to make home improvements in the run-up to the big day whilst others decide that it is time to look for a new home. Whether you are moving or improving Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks are here to help to ensure you have a great Christmas.”
