Mr Monojor Ali, of Cairnfield Avenue, NW2, was fined £6, 000 and ordered to pay costs of £1318 plus a £170 surcharge for breach of House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licence.
The property in Buxton Road, Willesden Green, was found by Brent Housing Inspectors to have:
• Inadequate fire protection to the communal areas
• Faulty wiring
• Smoke alarms broken and not working
Mr Ali was given the opportunity to rectify conditions and given a deadline to do so, however failed to take any action.
Councillor Harbi Farah, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "Every resident in Brent deserves a home that is safe, secure and fit for purpose and landlords that don't provide a good standard of accommodation will be prosecuted. This prosecution is one of more than fifty already made this year and sends a clear message that the Council is taking a zero-tolerance approach to rogue landlords.
I would encourage our residents to take part in our Landlord Licencing consultation, open until Friday 16 December. It is a great opportunity to tell the Council about the ways we can improve renting a home in Brent."
