Martyn started his career in property 16 years ago, as a trainee at an independent estate agency firm in Loughborough becoming an equity partner nine years later. He then joined Hartley’s Estate Agents to launch a new start office, before becoming a managing partner. Martyn is currently sales partner at independent Loughborough firm, AJR, where he has a hands on role, continually talking to vendors and buyers, therefore understanding first-hand the challenges members are facing.

As president, Martyn’s role will be to continue to promote NAEA and its standards, representing member agents, with responsibilities including speaking at NAEA regional meetings and local conferences.

Peter takes up his new role as president with over 30 years’ worth of experience in both the UK and overseas lettings market. During his extensive career he has advised foreign governments, listed companies and advised high wealth individuals on all aspects of their UK based property assets and future investments. He has also advised Trading Standards in two major London boroughs over many years.

Peter is currently the chairman of Simplify Estate Management Ltd, and works on a consultancy basis for dedicated lettings and property management company, Prime Property Management, based in Essex. Peter is a long standing member of ARLA and has held voluntary roles within the association under the last four presidents. As president, his role will be to continue to promote ARLA and its standards, and represent member agents with responsibilities including speaking at ARLA regional meetings and local conferences.

Martyn Baum, president, National Association of Estate Agents, said: “I’m delighted to take on the role of president. I am proud of what the NAEA stands for and the fact that members have chosen to sign up to the code of conduct. We need to continue to spread the word of the association far and wide and I have a motivated and hardworking NAEA board around me to help me accomplish this. I will continue to increase the number of regional conferences and will aim to increase public awareness of the organisation with these being major focuses of mine going forward.”

Mark Hayward, managing director, NAEA, said: “We are extremely pleased to have Martyn on board as NAEA’s newly elected president. Martyn brings a huge amount of industry knowledge, as well as passion and enthusiasm to the role and that will be greatly received across the board. Martyn is the youngest president we have had, so his energy and youthful charm will benefit the association hugely. Martyn is fully committed to all the values and standards that NAEA represents, and is dedicated to making sure all members are well supported and that the association offers a real value.”

Peter Savage, president, Association of Residential Letting Agents, said: “I’m overjoyed to take on the role of president. I am dedicated to the further growth and development of the ARLA message to consumers and its influence upon regulators and legislators. A main goal of mine is to continue to enhance the benefits offered to ARLA members and to encourage young people to view the industry as an exciting and rewarding career option.”

David Cox, managing director, ARLA, said: “We are excited to have Peter on board as ARLA’s newly elected president. Peter brings a wealth of industry experience to the role - he is fully committed to all the values and standards that ARLA represents and is dedicated to seeking good outcomes for our members.”
